you said your favorite movie star would always be james dean.

today is he 55th anniversary of james dean's death.
no. i wasn't alive when he was famous, but i've seen his films and have loved him.
he was a great actor. his short lived career speaks volumes about just how incredible he really was.
even with only three films under his belt, he was still named the 18th best male movie star by the american film institute. that's talent.

i've always thought the actors back in the golden ages of hollywood were much better than a lot of the ones we have now.
james dean was proof of this.

in his memory, go watch rebel without a cause, or east of eden, or giant.
if you haven't seen those films yet, you probably should get on it irregardless of mr. dean.

p.s. who can tell me what song i quoted for my post title? and who sang it?

nerd confession [#1].

i've decided to start a new segment on my blog called:
why? because deep down inside of every person, there is a nerd just dying to be released. since i'm comfortable with who i am {nerdiness and all}, i've decided to start sharing my [nerdy] guilty pleasures with the world.
feel free to scoff, roll your eyes, or question my sanity when reading these confessions because believe me, i've done all of those things to myself as well. many times. its okay though because we all know how awesome being nerdy really is, right? right.

so, for my first ever nerd confession, i'd like to let you know that:
i recently bought a pair of riding boots (they are the love of my fashion life and i wear them everywhere with everything) and i know they're called riding boots...

...but secretly (until today) i call them my "jedi boots". they remind me of the boots han solo wears in star wars and even though han solo isn't a jedi, i still call them that because... it sounds awesome.

what is your nerdy confession?

have a stupendous wednesday!

going raw.

i've come to the realization, that i'm not a true-to-myself blogger as of late. i've fallen into the wretched trap that is "for-you-blogging". i've been writing posts that i think will be entertaining, or stir some good conversation. i've been keeping things light and fluffy and searching for specific topics to focus on. i've been blogging for the wrong reasons.
when i came to this harsh realization, my first thought was "maybe i should just cancel my blog." then i felt an immediate sense of loss. you see, i've always been a writer. i've never NOT written in one form or another whether it be fan fiction or papers for school, extensive letters to those i care about or, for the last 3 years, blogging. so deleting my blog became out ruled just as quickly as the thought had entered my brain.
the answer was quite simple really. i just needed to change my reasons for blogging. blogs shouldn't be about followers or comments. it shouldn't be about posting everyday just so your readers have something to read, or posting the most innovative, creative pictures in the bloggersphere. it should be about you. your thoughts. your feelings. your words. it should be you. as for my blog, it wasn't me and it wasn't about me. it was about you. the readers. as much as i love my readers, i feel like i've become this certain person on my blog. someone who is really only a small portion of who i really am. my blog is a shallow reflection of me and my life and i've become unhappy with that.
because of all this, i've decided something. i've decided to blog for me now. if i feel like posting about my religion, i'm going to do it (something i've shied away from because i know what a touchy subject religion can be), if i feel like posting about some crazy idea i've had or a sentimental story i've heard, then i'm going to post it. - i know awhile back, i said things were going to change with my blog, and they might have for a few weeks, but i feel like i'm back in the rut that i don't want to be in. that rut stops here. no more posting only what i think my readers care to read about. no more shallow posts with lots of pictures and very little words. i'm a writer. i have thoughts. they deserve to be heard. i deserve to be heard.
don't get me wrong. not every post is going to be loaded with words and deep thoughts of mine. i'll still post some short and sweet stuff too but from here on out, everything you read is me. everything, is row.

that being said, i present to you, my new and finalized blog: spar[row] child raw.
written, edited, and "picturized" by the one and only, me. "sparrow" lucille bloomfield.

oh dear songs, i love you.

every few months i make playlists on my iTunes of songs that i LOVE at the time. its kind of fun to look back on past playlists and listen to what i liked then compared to what i like now. for instance, back in march my playlist consisted of songs like bleeding love (by leona lewis), fidelity (by regina spektor) and i'm yours (by jason mraz). all still very great songs, but now a little worn out on me.
tonight i just finished making a new playlist of my current faves and i thought i'd share it with you because after all, who doesn't love great music?! i would consider basically all of these a must hear (if you haven't already) but just so you know which ones i absolutely insist on, i've placed an astrix by the song title. if you do nothing else today, please at least go check these songs out! (for your convenience, i've attached links to the music videos on youtube. you're welcome.)

by: a rocket to the moon
on the album: on your side
one of my besties just introduced me to this song not too long ago and i LOVE it. after the first time i listened to it, i immediately played it again. then i had to look up the music video.
its such a great song. and so sad!

by: nsync
on the album: nsync (the european release)
yes, this song was originally sang by boston. betcha didn't know nsync covered it huh? well, it was never released in the u.s., but i was such a fan that i purchased the european release of the bands first album. believe me, it was worth it. (so i apologize in advance for the fan made video that is attached to this link. there was no m.v. released with this song so that's what you have to go through to hear the song. I DID NOT MAKE THE VIDEO. i repeat, i did not make the video.)

by: paramore
on the album: none - it wasn't released on an album
this song was originally done by the foo fighters and i liked it way back then. when i heard the version that paramore came out with a little bit ago, i swooned all over again. this song rocks my socks and will forever be one of my favorites (it has been, the foo fighters version anyway, since i was a sophmore in h.s.!) (again, no music video was made and i did not make the video attached.)

by: second hand serenade
on the album: a twist in my story
so, i know this was over played on the radio, but i don't listen to the radio. therefore, i don't get sick of songs like most people. this song has been on my favorites list basically since it came out and i just am not sick of it yet (probably never will be). its such a beautiful story and i love the way they sing it.

by: the beach boys
on the album: sounds of summer
besides the fact that this song can be heard on the film 50 first dates (which is one of my faves) and besides the fact that my girlfriend zooey deschanel sang it at the she&him concert i attended, i do love this song.
i love the meaning behind it mostly. and the music itself aint too shabby either. (the music video is kind of crazy cool too all vintagey and stuff.)
p.s. if you haven't seen 50 first dates, go do so now. please.

by: mika
on the album: the boy who knew too much
i love this whole album. its so good. and mika is by far one of my favorite artists. i haven't heard a song o his yet that i don't like.
most of his lyrics are so tragic, but his melodies are so upbeat. its a strangely entertaining combo that i can't stop listening to.

by: teresa victoria caprio
on the album: across the universe
first of all, have you seen across the universe? no? get on it. yes? good work my friend.
so, i LOVE the way she sings this. her raw desperation and teenage pain is so beautiful.
i may or may not listen to this on repeat sometimes (substituting some of the words as if i were singing it to a beautiful brown british boy who was about to sweep me off my feet...)

by: ben folds
on the album: rockin' the suburbs
this has also been a favorite since high school. we'd (my class mates and i) would listen to this song over and over and over again. we requested it at all of our dances and basically lived and breathed this song.
its such a thought provoking story. and so beautifully sung.
if you ask me, this is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. ever.
basically, ben fold is amazing and... that's about it.
by: sixpence none the richer
on the album: sixpence none the richer
this song is so old! it reminds me of my late middle school/early high school years.
its just fun. and cute. and i want it for my life.

by: train
on the album: drops of jupiter
another old time favorite of mine. this song has always stuck with me and intrigued me. the story is such a crazy one and i love thinking about it.
train in and of themselves are great musicians. they have the most creative lyrics.

by: jeff buckley
on the album: grace
i know its a long song, but its worth it to listen to every single second of it.
this song. ugh. its so beautiful. so tragic. so wonderful. so wonderful.

that concludes my list of current faves. they'll probably change within the week.
what are yours? i must know.

(if i owned soul sister by train and glitter in the air by pink they'd be on the favorites list too. but alas, i do not. and that's a very sad thing.)

happy monday!

that's my final answer.

with halloween rapidly approaching, i've been giving much thought to what i'm going to be this year (okay, okay, i've actually been thinking about it since last halloween ended, BUT whatevs.) well, at first i was thinking either roxy hart or alice in wonderland (two of my favorite ladies).

but last night, i decided to channel my inner geek and go as another one of my favorite ladies. it all started when i saw these:

immediately, i knew, i'm going to be:
batgirl
(circa barbara gordon)

i know right? i'm super excited. and don't worry, i'm not going as slutty batgirl. i'm going as awesome batgirl. cause that's how i roll.

what are you going as for halloween?

mean girls.

so, my roommate/bestie kdp and i are... friendly people, but we also don't deal with fake, stupid people and so our group of friends is slim. we have our "regular" friends what we hang out with all the time and we're both okay with that. no need to deal with the phonies when we already know who our real friends are.
well, kdp's birthday is coming up and i'm planning something for said birthday. i asked kdp to make a list of people she would like invited so i knew who to contact.

kdp titled that list "people i don't hate".

is it just me, or is that funny?!

couch potato.

fall means more than just great fashion and beautiful weather. it also means the beginning of brand new seasons of some of my favorite shows. last week, this  week, and next week all mark the re-start of some of my favorite shows on t.v. - observe:
how i met your mother
seas. 6
"haaaave you met ted?" - this show, in my opinion, is one of the funniest shows on television right now. between marshall (jason segel) and lily's witty banter and barney's (neil patrick harris) inappropriate one-liners, this show rocks my socks.
(himym airs on cbs on monday nights at 8/7c)

gossip girl
seas. 4
oh chuck bass. *swoon* alright so i watch for other reasons besides chuck, but even if i didn't, could you blame me? the fashion alone is another number one reason to watch...
(gossip girl is aired on the cw on monday nights at 9/8c.)

america's next top model
cycle 15
besides tyra's annoying theatrics at the end: "the next girl's name i am going to say is..." ugh! just say it already!! i really like this show! its actually one of the few reality shows of its kind that i like. (i don't do idol or biggest loser or anything like that...) this cycle has some hideously beautiful girls, which i love! my favorites are esther, annamarie, and ann. they are so quirky beautiful.
(antm is aired on the cw on wednesday nights at 8/7c)

the big bang theory
seas. 4
as confusing as the dialogue can be in this show, i love it. its so confusing that it makes sense. sheldon is by far my favorite character, but the other four are worth watching as well.
"penny!" *knock, knock, knock* "penny!" *knock, knock, knock* "penny!"
(the big bang theory airs on cbs on thursday nights at 8/7c)

what shows do you watch/which shows are you excited for to start back up again?

never forget.

i was in 10th grade when it happened.
i woke up to the radio saying that the South Tower of the World Trade Center had been hit by a plane. at that point in my life, i had no idea what the World Trade Center was, what al-Qaeda was, or the extremity of what was going on. terrorism was not a word in my vocabulary.
when i got to school that tragic day, we didn't discuss math or english or science, we discussed history. the history that was being made at that exact moment. i watched the North Tower fall, watched the thick grey smoke billow up from the towers and envelope new york city. firemen, policemen, emts and other brave men and women scampered up the streets and in and out of the World Trade Center, desperately attempting to save the lives of those that were still clinging to this world. they dug through the rubble and assisted those who were within reach.
bodies flying out of the WTC, debris suffocating others, and still 2 airplanes in the air with the Pentagon and the white house as their targets. hundreds already dead, with many more to follow in their path.
i still didn't understand what was going on, but i understood that it was horrible.

later i learned more about what had happened and what it meant for the united states of America. hundreds of stories about courageous people who gave their lives to save others in the tragedy of 9/11 and of those who survived the attack floated around the world for weeks to follow. thousands of people visited the crash site daily, grasping to the hope that their loved ones may still be alive. pictures and memorials lined the streets and still, the united states of America pushed on and soon after, took a stand.

i've always been proud to be an American, but now more than ever, i'm grateful to be an American. i feel blessed to be a part of such a strong and powerful country. one that can literally rise from the dust and move forward, eye on the horizon, never giving up hope.

please take a minute today and remember those who were lost and who gave their lives for this wonderful country. remember and be grateful that we are the land of the free because of the brave.

God bless America.

ok go.

it has come to my attention that ok go has the most intricate, creative music videos ever. don't believe me? observe:
{end love}

{this too shall pass}

and who could forget {here it goes again} with the treadmills? pure genius.
who do you think does the best music videos?

happy friday!

this court is now in session.

confession: i kind of find shows such as judge judy and judge joe brown sort of entertaining...

its entertaining to see the stupid things people do and then try to deny that they did it. its also pretty funny to watch the judges act like bad a's and roast on the people. every session starts out with them listening to the problem and escalates from there with a "you are so dumb, you are really dumb" type of ending...

clearly i have nothing better to do with my days off than watch really bad reality t.v.
i need a productive hobby...

(and yes. i did say "bad a's" - that's how i do it! {said in an anjelah johnson sort of way})
